After a dishwasher leak, what about the cabinet bases?

The visible puddle may not show the full path of water around built-in cabinets.

Avoid creating a second problem

Do not pull a heavy appliance through standing water or handle wet power connections to investigate. Use a known, safely accessible shutoff only if conditions allow. A qualified appliance or plumbing professional may be needed to stop and repair the source.

Record the neighboring surfaces

From safe access, note swelling, discoloration and water at cabinet edges, adjoining flooring or the room below. Photograph the broader layout as well as visible details. These observations help the assessment but cannot prove what is dry behind a toe-kick or beneath flooring.

Ask how hidden areas will be assessed

Discuss whether access panels or finishes must be removed, why that is necessary and who approves it. Ask what evidence supports retaining cabinet materials. Read the appliance leak service guide and drying questions together.

Clarify the reinstallation handoff

The estimate should say who moves the appliance, repairs the failed component, dries the surrounding materials and reconnects everything. Keep those responsibilities in the written record. A functioning dishwasher does not by itself show that the surrounding structure has dried.

Connect the guidance to the service

Review appliance leak cleanup before discussing the assessment. Confirm the business, address availability, charges and written scope directly.
